Football's world governing body released a media statement on Tuesday afternoon after match official Halil Umut Meler was attacked by a club president in the Turkish Super Lig.
The referee was punched by Ankaragucu chief Faruk Koca in horrible scenes on Monday, before another man kicked him in the face while he was on the ground.
Quickly after the incident, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) confirmed that the league had been suspended and that Koca had been detained by authorities following his actions.
FIFA's president Gianni Infantino has since released a statement to address the shocking events.
"There is absolutely no place for violence in football, on or off the field," it read, according to FIFAMedia.
"Events following the Turkish Super Lig match between MKE Ankaragucu and Çaykur Rizespor are totally unacceptable and have no place in our sport or society. Without match officials there is no football.
"Referees, players, fans and staff have to be safe and secure to enjoy the game, and I call on the relevant authorities to ensure that this is strictly implemented and respected at all levels."
It is alleged that Koca was furious with the referee following a stoppage-time equaliser scored by Rizespor forward Adolfo Gaich.
