Mmodi Stunner Seals Back-To-Back Wins For Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs secured back-to-back wins in the DStv Premiership after defeating Polokwane City 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Result: Polokwane City 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 09 December 2023

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

Chiefs were unchanged from their narrow win over Moroka Swallows, as Ranga Chivaviro, Christian Saile and Pule Mmodi led the attack.

The Glamour Boys had a slow start, which allowed Polokwane to ask them questions and 14 minutes later, Douglas Mapfumo came close to opening the scoring for the visitors with a dipping header that was parried over the crossbar by goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma.

City almost went ahead from the resultant corner, as Tholo Matuludi fired an over-head kick in the box that parried into the underside of the crossbar and out of danger by Bvuma.

Cavin Johnson's charges got into the game midway into the first stanza and Saile had a chance just before the hour-mark with low curler on the edge of the box that was smothered by goalkeeper Manuel Sapunga.

However, Amakhosi could not get momentum after that and struggled to connect in the last third as the first stanza ended without goals.

Chiefs had a perfect start in the second stanza after Mmodi broke the deadlock five minutes in with a strike at the near post after a run in the box.

Amakhosi gained momentum and Saile had a chance to double their lead on 65 minutes after a great run in the box but his threatening shot missed narrowly wide.

With the game on the edge, Johnson made a tactical change on 73 minutes as he brought on Edson Castillo in place of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Rise and Shine pressurized Chiefs in the dying minutes with dangerous long balls into their box but the visitors defended well and held on to their second straight win.
