3 Players Man Utd Should Sell In January

3 Players Man Utd Should Sell In January

With Manchester United on the brink of crashing out of the UEFA Champions League after another calamitous performance in Europe, here are three players the Red Devils should be looking to sell when the January transfer window opens!

Donny van de Beek

Though the Dutch midfielder cannot take any blame for the struggling form the Red Devils find themselves in, it is high time United parted ways with the former Ajax Amsterdam player, whose spell in England has been nothing short of disastrous! The 26-year-old has made only two performances this term, after he was excluded from the Erik ten Hag's UEFA Champions League squad, and has only contributed to two goals in his entire United career, which consists of just 62 games over the course of three and a half seasons. Van de Beek joined the Manchester-based giants in 2020 having shown plenty of promise in the Eredivisie, funnily enough under Ten Hag, but his issues since arriving in England have only highlighted the club's poor and scattered approach to recruitment. He was the wrong signing for United at the wrong time, and is proving to be yet another example of the club's inability to offload players who shouldn't be there.

Jadon Sancho

If you thought Van de Beek was one of United's forgotten footballers, then how exactly should Sancho be described? In 2021, the winger completed an exciting multi-million pound switch to the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund, but it has all been pretty much downhill from there. Sancho currently finds himself banished from all first-team activities at the club following his public falling out with Ten Hag, and he still refuses to apologise for his reaction to his manager's criticism. Clearly, the 23-year-old doesn't think he has been treated fairly, which might mean there is more to this story. However, it is almost understandable that fans are finding his side difficult to believe considering his underwhelming performances since joining the Red Devils. Sancho has scored only 12 goals in 82 appearances across all competitions, and at this point isn't worth fighting for. United must sell him as soon as they can so the club can move on and so he can revive his career.

Anthony Martial

After 17 games into this season, the 27-year-old Frenchman has scored only two goals. Last season, he scored only nine times across all competitions and just twice in the campaign before that. Martial joined the Red Devils in 2015 as a promising youngster from Monaco, and many will remember the excitement that followed his dazzling debut goal against Liverpool. Sadly, though, that arguably remains his greatest moment in red. Despite massively talented and neat on the ball, it feel like fans are still waiting for the forward to come of age. His deal at the club expires at the end of the season, but United should consider cashing in on him in January to avoid losing him for free in 2024. Many will reminisce by watching highlights of his, but perhaps, with Martial, those fans will be missing the player they believed he could be and not the player he actually is.
