The African Football League has come and gone for the Egyptian giants, who only made it as far as the semi-finals.
The north African side was defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns in the final four as the Red Devils failed to add the new competition's silverware to their plentiful trophy cabinet.
One of their stars who perhaps did not perform to his best capabilities in the showpiece was winger Tau.
The South African failed to register a goal or an assist in the tournament, but this has seemingly not deterred the Cairo outfit from wanting to prolong his stay at the club.
According to Corner Sport, Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib and director of football Khaled Bebo have settled on the decision to extend the Witbank native's current deal.
The 29-year-old's existing contract is set to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign, but it appears the Egyptian Premier League champions still believe in Tau's capabilities of leading the club to more silverware.
The same report also claims that head coach Marcel Koller has pleaded with the executive to extend the Bafana Bafana talisman's contract as he feels the team needs him.
