In a few months from now, Edmilson Dove will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice, but it appears Kaizer Chiefs are not ruling out the possibility of keeping the defender beyond the end of the season.
The Mozambican international signed a two-year deal when he joined the Soweto giants early last campaign and while talks have not officially opened over a new deal, indications are that club management are looking into offering the former Cape Town City star an extension, possibly a two-year contract.
Since making his return from injury, the dreadlocked player has made three appearances, playing at left back. He has not entirely covered himself in glory during that period, notably being found wanting for Khanyisa Mayo's winner in their most recent match on Tuesday. Last season, under the tutelage of Arthur Zwane, he played as a left-sided centre-back, making 25 appearances in all competitions.
At age 29, the Siya crew understands that the Glamour Boys hierarchy believe that Dove can still make a contribution beyond the end of the current season and so the club will open talks over a new deal before the season comes to an end.
He is seen as a valuable player at Naturena and, according to sources, the club believes the left-footed player's experience and versatility will come in handy going forward. It's understood that Molefi Ntseki is a big fan of Dove and he will have a big say in the defender's future at Chiefs.
