3 In A Row! Bucs Legends Takes Hat Off For Riveiro

Former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi has taken his hat off for coach Jose Riveiro for reaching a third consecutive major competition final in the Premier Soccer League.

Riveiro has achieved an incredible feat of leading the Buccaneers to three major knockout competition finals in a row by beating Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 semi-finals.

Pirates won the MTN8 last season and wrapped up the campaign with a Nedbank Cup triumph, and they are continuing from where they left off. They are set for a meeting with Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final, as Riveiro looks to create history by becoming the first coach to win three major knockout competition finals in a row.

"It's impressive, for a coach to come to the country and reach three cup finals in a row. It shows he is doing a great job and credit should go to him and the leadership for assembling a good team. There are players who have added value and depth. The coach has done a great job and I wish he can continue this way. Sometimes the performances are affected by injuries, but it's good that other players are able to come in and do well for the team," Lekgwathi said to the Siya crew.

Pirates hammered Sundowns 3-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals of the MTN8 last season in an exciting encounter. Lekgwathi feels that the final will be another entertaining affair, with both sides likely to have a full go at one another at Moses Mabhida Stadium on October 7.

"It's not going to be an easy one. As you know, Sundowns lost to Pirates in the semi-final last season and now they are meeting in the final. It won't be easy for both teams, but it will be an exciting one. I can't wait. The good thing is that I will be at the stadium. It's going to be one of the best finals of the MTN8."
