It is well known that the France captain grew up admiring the ex-Real Madrid talisman, with a famous picture from the former Monaco starlet's youth showing his bedroom walls covered with posters of Portugal's all-time record goalscorer.
In 2021, though, Mbappe started playing alongside Messi at Paris Saint-Germain after the Argentine arrived as a free agent following his shock departure from Barcelona.
Having worked closely with the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, the 24-year-old revealed during a recent social media live session that he previously could not see just how special Messi is due to his love for Ronaldo.
"I love Cristiano and I was a big fan of him when I was young, but I started to learn that Messi is very good," he said, according to AS.
"When you are a huge Cristiano fan, you can't see how good Messi is, because you love him (CR7). But I grew up and I like both."
