In January 2022 Bongani Zungu returned to Mamelodi Sundowns after spending years in Europe and had reportedly signed an initial two-year contract back then.
With that contract going to come to an end in June 2024, Siya sources have indicated that the club could have offered him another two years with a one-year option for an extension.

The sources told the Siya crew that the former Bafana Bafana midfielder may be part of coach Rulani Mokwena's plans and that's why they are understood to want to keep him for another term.
"You know the coach likes him very much. He is in his plans and that's why they have apparently initiated the two-year extension on his current contract," said the Siya source.
"In 2022 he signed an initial two-year contract so if all this works then it will be up to June 2026 buy if they add the option then it will be until June 2027.
"But for now there are two straight years they are talking about," the source said.
Another Siya source added that the club is possibly planning around Zungu because they will be playing in many different competitions from this season going forward.
"He is in the technical team plans. They know how to use him correctly accordingly to the games and the competitions they are playing in," said the other Siya source.

"The coach likes him and his style and that's one of the reasons for the alleged renewal proposal for two years. He understands him and he knows how to use him," concluded the source.
