Mamelodi Sundowns star Gaston Sirino is linked with a move away from Chloorkop again with the indications that Egyptian giants Al Ahly are still keen on him.
For some time now, the attacker has been a target of Ahly although the club failed in all its previous attempts to lure him from the defending DStv Premiership champions.
Under former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane it was thought that the player would be able to conclude the move but that deal too fell through as he remained with the Brazilians although he has struggled with limited game time in recent months.
Following another successful transfer window for Downs as several players have been signed by the club, the 32-year-old Uruguayan is believed to be concerned about his lack of regular game time.
Former Sundowns midfielder Charles Motlohi has made a plea to the club to allow Sirino to move on with his career.
The Good
"My advice to the club would be to allow the player to move on. To be honest, I don't even see his place in the team anymore because there are other quality players like Marcelo Allende and others who are doing well in his absence. Sundowns is a big club and there are always quality players to choose from for matches. We are used to having quality players like Sirino from back in the day and it's not something that is new. If you can think as far back to the days of Mike Ntombela, (Ernest) "Wire" Chirwali (Mtawali), Zane Moosa, Roger Feutmba and the list is endless, the club has always been blessed with quality players. Players do come and go and in my opinion it won't be good to keep a player against his will if he wants to leave and the club should allow him to move on. He should go to where he believes he will be able to enjoy his football again," said Motlohi.
The Bad
"I know that people like to create a perception that Sundowns do not want to release players but we had been there also and were allowed to move on when the time arrived and that's how we opened way for the likes of Surprise Moriri and they also left when their time arrived. I think the team is doing well under Rulani but there have been times when I felt like they lack the ability to manage games. For example, against Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League, I felt that the team let themselves and us down by not managing that game the way they should have done. Sometimes we have to play just for the sake of getting the results even if is ugly football," he said.
The Ugly
"I am still hurting because of how we exited the Champions League. That's a game we should have been able to manage and win. That's why you need to have players like Tinashe Nengomasha and Willard Katsande in your team. Those are the players that will bulldoze opponents and do all sorts of things just to benefit the team. You can't have playmakers in the whole team and you need those guys who play direct and who are naturally strong," concluded Motlohi.
Should Sundowns sell Sirino?
