While Kaizer Chiefs and the fraternity are waiting to hear regarding the whereabouts of Khama Billiat and the way forward, it has been advised that a move away from the Soweto giants could be what the Zimbabwean international needs to benefit his career.
Billiat is understood to have gone AWOL although some have suggested that that is not the right word to use as the attacker is currently out of contract at Naturena.
While Chiefs have expressed interest in keeping the 32-year-old for at least another year on their books, the player has been nowhere to be found as the team is preparing for the new season under newly appointed coach Molefi Ntseki.
The Good
"We are not talking about any ordinary player here but we are talking about Khama Billiat, and I hear people talking about his previous injury, but it's not like he had a broken leg or something. Khama is a top player and that was easy to see at Sundowns because he was surrounded by players of similar quality. Chiefs should have spoken to Khama way before and promised quality players would be signed, I'm sure he was going to be willing to extend the contract. Khama is an international player and when I talk of him as being the best player I am not saying only at Chiefs but in the whole DStv Premiership. He is skilfull, good first touch and is excellent on one v one. When did you last see players like him in the DStv Premiership who can deal with opponents on a one v one situation like he does? It's been a while," he said.
The Bad
"Yes, Khama was injured but I think there's more to it than just the injury. I think psychologically he hasn't been 100% fine. The pressure that he has been under to deliver might have put him at a disadvantage. There hasn't been enough quality in terms of the players surrounding him. Khama might have seen that the job was too much for him as he was expected to create and score goals all the time. But how is he supposed to score while playing as a false number nine? Because that's where he has been playing or left or right wing. In order for any player to be able to score goals, he too should first get supply from somewhere," Khanye said.
The Ugly
"Why did the club wait for the last six months of the player's contract to lapse before deciding that they still need him. Yes, he had been injured at some point but I don't think he was injured all the time. That's why I suspect that it also had something to do with the psychological side of things," he added.
Either Khama wanted to leave or...
"Either Khama wanted to leave or he wanted to first check the club's new signings before making up his mind about the whole situation. A quality player does need to be surrounded by other quality players because as much as people talk about the standard of the club that has dropped, his value as a player has also dropped. The fact that he hasn't been winning things like he used to means that his value has also dropped," concluded Khanye.
Should Chiefs and Billiat go their separate ways?
