Kaizer Chiefs might have pulled a fast one on their traditional rivals Orlando Pirates by beating them to the punch in relation to three new players, but they could have also taken their eyes off the ball on another exciting talent!
Information landing on the Siya crew's desk is that Swallows FC have seized the opportunity to invite an exciting young Ethiopian international striker who has been on Amakhosi's radar for the last two years until recently.
Now, this publication has been informed that the Birds flew swiftly to invite Saint George striker Amanuel Gebremichael, who was first identified by the Glamour Boys a year ago after they were upstaged by Mamelodi Sundowns for the services of Abubeker Nasir.
The player is artful, skilful, tricky and with pace to burn. The speedy winger was, at the time, valued at R2 million but for reasons that are difficult to tell other than perhaps there was bigger fish to fry, the Soweto giants never followed up.
At national team level, Gebremichael and Nasir are quite a handful and following the departure of Nasir to Mamelodi Sundowns, Saint George have relied on him for goals and he delivered as he helped them to the top of the Ethiopian league table with 59 points, five more than second-positioned Bahir Dar Kenema with three matches remaining.
However, an agency that is associated with the player is concerned that Gebremichael came to South Africa without informing them about his whereabouts nor were they involved in his invitation.
"We are trying to locate the player after learning through the Ethiopian Consulate that he was granted a visa at the invitation of Swallows FC," whined a spokesman for the management team looking after his interests.
"Now that we have been informed that he has been invited by Swallows, we will try to figure out who brought him to South Africa without consulting us," he added.
Would it be a blow to Chiefs to miss out on Gebremichael?
