With Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch waiting to know his fate regarding the case he is facing, the club is expected to make a decision on his future.
Two weeks ago, it was confirmed by the National Prosecuting Authority that Lorch was found guilty by the Randburg Magistrate Court of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
This is after the talented footballer had a complaint against him laid at the Randburg Police Station by his ex-girlfriend in 2020.
Pirates confirmed that they were aware of the decision handed down by the court and reiterated their stance against violence towards women and children.
As confirmed by the NPA, the case was postponed to July 28 for sentencing.
The court's decision came at a time when the Soweto giants had been expected to make a decision on the player's future after he recently recovered from a long-term injury.
As reported by the Siya crew, the club has been expected to engage the attacker regarding possibly tying him down on a new contract.
According to information available to the Siya crew, the player's deal runs until June 2024, while sources have indicated that the club had hoped to tie him down on a new three-year deal.
However, with the player waiting to hear from the authorities regarding the court matter, the club's decision on his future is likely to be put on hold for now.
In recent times, Lorch has been linked with a move to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, while the player has had hopes of securing an overseas switch.
Bucs have been understandably reluctant to lose the star to the Brazilians who are their competitors in the league and have hoped for the 29-year-old to commit on a long-term contract instead.
Since returning from injury after missing in action for the better part of this past season, Lorch proved again why he is so important to the team with his contributions. The club has recently completed their return to the CAF Champions League with their second place finish on the log, as well as their victory in the Nedbank Cup adding to their prestige and requirement to have a strong squad next season.
