The President of Yanga Sports Club revealed to Soccer Laduma that there has neither been a formal nor informal approach for the services of red-hot striker Fiston Mayele. In an interview with Engineer Hersi Said during the club's trophy parade across the streets of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania over the weekend, the President admitted to have read countless reports linking his player to other clubs.
"The truth is no one, no one has approached me to discuss or negotiate about Mayele. The player is an important figure in the club and, in truth, we don't want to let him go," said Hersi Said. "But football is business and you never know what will happen tomorrow," he added.
Asked about reports linking the soon-to-be 29-year-old with a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs, the Yanga President reiterated that no one has approached the club other than what he has read in the media.
"I take (it) that is merely speculation until someone chats to us or tables an offer. And right now as we speak, I have never received a call or an offer for the said player."
It had been reported in the media that not only Chiefs but Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns were looking at luring Mayele to Mzansi. The forward has been in red-hot form for Yanga and single-handedly drove the Dar es Salaam giants to the league championship as well as the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.
They defeated USM Alger 1-0 in Algeria in the second leg to tie the two-legged encounter 2-2 but became runners-up on the away goal rule after the Algerians had triumphed 2-1 in Tanzania. The DR Congo-born striker won the Tanzanian Premier League Golden Boot award with 18 goals and three assists, while his exploits in the CAF Confederation Cup roused the attention of countless suitors.
