Cardoso Advises Msimango Ahead Of Chiefs Move

The seven years Daniel Cardoso spent at Kaizer Chiefs taught him valuable lessons and he has now offered words of encouragement for Given Msimango, who is expected to join Amakhosi ahead of next season.

Msimango, who was nominated for the DStv Premiership defender of the season award, is understood to have penned a four-year deal with Amakhosi and will join a club that has been going through a difficult period without silverware for eight years. This has placed pressure on players who have signed for the club over the last few years and few have been able to handle it.

Amakhosi have parted ways with a whole host of players that they have signed in the last few years, with many failing to live up to expectations that come with playing for the Soweto giants. Msimango will need a strong character to succeed.

Cardoso, who left Chiefs at the end of last season, spent seven years as a player at Naturena, going through some of the most difficult times as the club failed to win a trophy after the Stuart Baxter era which had the likes of Tefu Mashamaite, Mandla Masango, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Siboniso Gaxa.

"It's a big club. Everybody knows that, but don't go there and put pressure on yourself. Don't go there and be like the rest and just sit and do what the rest do. Live your private life. My advice, if he does end up going there, is to keep his head above water. Fans play a big role at Chiefs. We've seen in the past few games how the fans have been reacting. The boy is young and it's broken a lot of characters for youngsters. I just wish him all the best," Cardoso said to the Siya crew.

Social media has become a place where footballers get a lot of negative criticism when things are not going so well. Cardoso has advised the defender to block out what people say on social media.

"Look, you can't hide away from social media anymore. Social media is part of our lives and it's going to be out there. It's up to you on whether you want to take the comments harshly or you if just brush if off your shoulders. Brush it off your shoulders. Block it out. Don't even read them. Social media will always be there."
