While they did not win all the trophies on offer in the season gone by, Sundowns were brutally dominant in the league. They also managed to reach the semi-finals of all the local and continental competitions.
But with their insatiable head coach already switching his focus to the upcoming campaign, naturally talk has surfaced around possible additions to the squad.
However, speaking to journalists at the Hyundai head offices in Bedfordview, Mokwena revealed why bringing in players is proving to be a difficult task for the Brazilians.
"For sure, it's like any big club. All the big clubs have a responsibility to improve and the first way to do that is more work, more training, more video, more development, more ideas, more advancement. We have to work harder and do a little more," he said.
"We have to bring in better players and that is difficult because of the level that we have. Try to raise the standard and the energy in the club and to bring in new players with higher levels of motivation so that they raise that energy amongst the squad.
"We've had those conversations already. It's not going to be too many changes but of course we will improve the squad in the window," he continued.
The spotlight has also been cast on the possible exits from the club, albeit some on loan to get more game time. The likes of Kennedy Mweene, Gift Motupa, Lesedi Kapinga and Erwin Saavedra are amongst those who have been linked with possible moves.
