Zwane was met by a faction of angry supporters upon his exit from the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday as Chiefs suffered their 11th defeat of the season, their worst-ever return in the PSL.
Chiefs spokesperson Vina Maphosa confirmed that the injuries Zwane suffered, came as a result of police trying to protect him rather than objects hurled at him by the fans.
"I can confirm that the coach was injured after the game. He was hurt in the eye and received medical attention. He wasn't hit by the objects thrown by the fans but was injured by the shield of the police who was trying to protect him," he told Radio2000's GameOn.
"The coach is recovering well and should be on the bench against [Cape Town] City in our last game. Even though he wasn't hit by the objects, we have been able to identify three plain clothed supporters who threw the objects. This behaviour is embarrassing because we pride ourselves on love and peace," he continued.
When asked about Zwane's future at the club, Maphosa revealed that Zwane will be remaining in his post, as the club will not be making decisions based on emotion.
"We're not contemplating changing the coach. We will not act on emotions but technical aspects. There has been a lot of investment in Coach Zwane, and he remains the coach of Kaizer Chiefs," he continued.
