Motlanthe leaves with immediate effect and Lydia Monyepao, who has been serving as the Chief Operations Officer, has now been appointed as the new CEO of the association. She becomes the first female to take up the role of CEO at the association on a permanent basis.
Monyepao is a former Banyana Banyana player and has been appointed with immediate effect, but the length of her contract has not been confirmed yet.
According to Jordaan, the terms and conditions of the contract will be finalised in the coming days.
"The decision was unanimous. Everyone agreed to the decision to have Lydia Monyepao. Congratulations and you have to hit the ground running. She has been appointed yesterday (Sunday) and we must sit down for the terms and conditions must be negotiated and signed. We must sit down and see if she is ready for one year, three years or five years," Jordaan said during a press conference on Monday.
Monyepao will get straight into things as SAFA will be meeting with government to discuss the bid for the 2027 FIFA Women's Cup.
"Tomorrow (Tuesday) we are going to Cape Town. We have a meeting with government to discuss the bid. We have deadlines and we must meet those deadlines. The work must carry on and that's why we cannot have a vacancy for one day. We must immediately act and appoint a CEO. Of course, we are fortunate that we have a person who has been with SAFA for a long time. She was a player for Banyana Banyana. She had good ability and then became the manager of Banyana Banyana and continued her administrative career. She went to work at the University of Pretoria, but she also worked for Ernst Young, because she has a strong financial background. She is highly respected in CAF and FIFA and we are highly fortunate to have such a person."
