According to Siya sources at Chloorkop, reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have put defender Ryan Baartman on their wish-list as the season quickly draws to a close.
Baartman has been one of the standout players for All Stars FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and it's believed his performance has caught the attention of several clubs both in the topflight and lower division.
With Stars chairman Lunga Ncwana having confirmed he is open to offers to sell the club as the logistics of running the team since relocating it from Cape Town to Johannesburg have proved a challenge, a lot of their key players could also be offloaded.
Soccer Laduma has been led to understand that Baartman falls in that category – and as things stand, the high-profile club that has put him on their radar is Sundowns.
Baartman has spent most of his career playing in the second tier of South African football, but had a spell at Chippa United two years ago.
He would relish the opportunity to return to the elite league, especially on the books of the record title holders if Downs decide to bring him on board.
The Tshwane giants do have a lot of options in that centre-back position, but that is not to say their scouting network will not look for a special talent and bring it to the attention of the technical team led by coach Rulani Mokwena.
It remains to be seen in the coming weeks how the situation at Stars unfolds regarding their imminent sale and what that then means for Baartman.
