He was part of a group of experienced players which Amakhosi parted ways with at the end of last season, including the likes of Bernard Parker, Daniel Akpeyi, Lebogang Manyama and Samir Nurkovic.
After beating Chiefs in the first round DSTV Premiership match, Sekhukhune face the Soweto giants at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday and Cardoso has given his thoughts on the current Amakhosi side under the guidance of Zwane, who is close to completing his first full campaign as coach of the club.
"I don't want to want to open up a can on worms, but youngsters are not going to win you titles and trophies. They are in a rebuilding phase, as you can see with Zwane, Shabalala, Mashiane. They got rid of all the experience players. If you look at the Sundowns team, they have experienced players. That's why they win trophies season in and season out. He's got a good foundation going on there, but to win titles, you need far more experience," Cardoso told media at Johannesburg Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Cardoso is aware of Chiefs' high-pressing game and says it's something they are going to prepare for.
