According to L'Equipe, the Argentina international is nearer than ever to calling time on his stint in the French capital.
The 35-year-old made his way to Paris after Barcelona were unable to offer the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner a contract renewal back in 2021. Now as Messi approaches free agency once again, it seems that yet another exit could be on the horizon.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the two parties had agreed on an extension in principle and that it would be signed shortly after his return from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but since his exploits in Qatar, the Rosario native and PSG have both seen a dramatic dip in form.
Their most recent defeat to Olympique Lyon meant that Les Parisiens have now lost eight out of their 18 games played in all competitions this year, their highest tally of defeats after 18 matches in a calendar year since 2001
The same report suggests it is this form which has dissuaded Messi from wanting to prolong his stay with the record Ligue 1 champions.
