Chiefs made two changes following their win over Maritzburg United, as Siyabonga Ngezana returned from suspension and Zitha Kwinika dropped to the bench while Samkelo Zwane took the place of the suspended Yusuf Maart.
Amakhosi had a firing start as they went ahead on 11 minutes after Ashley Du Preez had no problems slotting home a penalty against his former side after he was brought down in the box by Olwethu Makhanya.
Four minutes after going a goal down, Stellies also went a man down after goalkeeper Sage Stephens handled a ball out of the box from Keagan Dolly's chip and was red-carded.
Arthur Zwane's charges had their tails up and capitalized on their numerical advantage on 25 minutes as Keagan Dolly gave them a two-goal cushion with a deflected shot past substitute goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt.
Chiefs continued to dominate proceedings, as Stellies dropped deeper in their own half and Dolly had a chance to make it 3-0 on the brink of half-time but fired a low drive just wide after a through ball by Du Preez.
Steve Barker's men had the start they were looking for from the interval, as Ibraheem Jabaar pulled a goal back within a minute with a shot between the legs of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen after Chiefs were caught unaware at the back.
Amakhosi were living dangerously at the back around the hour-mark, as Stellies were spirited to get the equaliser but that opened the game up, with the home side missing some chances.
Zwane did not want to take chances in the closing stages, as he made a defensive change with 17 minutes left, as Happy Mashiane came on for Christian Saile Basomboli.
However, as the game opened up, Du Preez almost put the game to bed 11 minutes before time with a long range looping shot was was eventually saved by Langeveldt.
The Glamour Boys, with a numerical advantage, continued to have the better chances in the tail end, as they held onto their fourth consecutive win in the league and kept their hopes alive of qualifying for the CAF Champions League.
