The winner of The Best FIFA Men's Player award for 2022 has been officially announced!

On Monday night, Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina playmaker Lionel Messi pipped club teammate Kylian Mbappe and ex-LaLiga rival Karim Benzema to the individual accolade.

At a FIFA ceremony in Paris, the 35-year-old was crowned the winner after an impressive 2022, during which he won the Ligue 1 title with PSG and the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the Albiceleste.
Messi was instrumental as he claimed the prestigious international trophy with his countrymen, contributing to an impressive 10 goals in seven matches at the tournament in Qatar.
The ex-Barcelona captain became the first player in history to score in all four knockout rounds of the World Cup, a streak that included a brace in the final against France that ended 3-3 after extra-time, before Messi and his compatriots won on penalties.
This is the forward's second The Best FIFA Men's Player prize, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski each having won the award twice and Luka Modric once.
