Sundowns Overtake Al Ahly As Africa’s Number 1 Team!

Mamelodi Sundowns are Africa's number one team, overtaking perennial giants Al Ahly to the summit, that is according to the latest information on footballdatabase.com.

The Brazilians, according to the data website have overtaken their Egyptian counterparts to head to the top of the African football rankings.

According to the website, Sundowns boast a points tally of 1645 having gained 48 points over the last year, while Al Ahly on 1635 points have lost 66 points over the last year.

Coincidentally, the two sides square off in the CAF Champions League this Saturday, having been drawn in the same group for the second consecutive season.

Sundowns hold the advantage heading into the clash having picked up wins over Al Hilal and Coton Sport respectively, while the Egyptians lost out to their Sudanese counterparts last weekend.

Other websites like IFFHS have Sundowns listed in sixth position on the African club rankings, with Al Ahly in first position.
