Sancho, 22, was hurt to be left out of England's 2022 FIFA World Cup squad in November, with Erik ten Hag making the decision to send the former Borussia Dortmund player to the Netherlands to continue working during the break in club football.
Netting just three times in all competitions before the tournament in the Middle East, Sancho's performances had left fans underwhelmed and concerned about his long-term future at the club.
According to the Daily Mail, however, the former Manchester City youth academy player requested to do some one-on-one work with striker coach McCarthy, whose appointment at Carrington came as a surprise in June last year.
The South African has been hailed for his impact at the 20-time English champions, particularly on Marcus Rashford, who is enjoying career-best scoring form, having already struck on 24 occasions this season.
The 25-year-old has scored 16 goals in 17 matches since club football resumed after the World Cup, making him the most in-form attacker across Europe's top five leagues.
McCarthy, South Africa's only UEFA Champions League winner, seems to have already had a positive influence on Sancho, who has scored two goals since returning to action for United.
