Manchester United star Mason Greenwood has released a statement of his own after all criminal charges against him were dropped on Thursday.
Charges Against Greenwood Dropped
With his trial initially set for November this year, the Greater Manchester Police issued a statement to the public on Thursday relating to the allegations the 21-year-old was facing.
In January 2022, Greenwood, previously considered among the most talented young players in England, was arrested after his then-partner accused him rape, coercive behaviour and abuse.
Just over a year later, the GMP said the charges levelled against the one-time England international had been "discontinued", a conclusion that has sent shockwaves throughout Europe.
In a press release drawn up on Thursday evening, the Red Devils made it clear that an internal investigation within the club would still be conducted as to how to proceed, with the forward still under contract at Old Trafford until 2025.
Greenwood has, according to the Daily Mirror, said: "I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time."
The striker has made 129 appearances for United since his senior debut for the club in 2019, scoring 35 goals.
