A former Mamelodi Sundowns player has given his opinion on why the club cannot afford to lose experienced midfielder Andile Jali.
Jali's contract with the club is due to expire at the end of the season and talks have been ongoing behind the scenes in an effort to see whether or not they can agree on a new deal.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder is understood to have attracted interest in the PSL, but former Sundowns midfielder Brent Carelse is of the opinion that the DStv Premiership champions should try their best to hold onto the player.
Sundowns are entering an important stage of the season, as they will be competing in three competitions - the Premiership, CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup - so Carelse feels they will need someone like Jali to call upon during those difficult moments.
"Any team in South Africa should be wanting Andile Jali. I think Sundowns should definitely try to renew his contract, unless they feel he has done enough. I played against him when he was still young at Pirates. He has a lot of confidence in his ability and that feeds off to his teammates, which makes them better players. They should hold onto him," Carelse said, speaking to the Siya crew.

"He also performs when he is called upon and has a major influence on the outcome of matches. He is a quality player and very important, especially now."
