Slain Former Chiefs Star’s Murder Trial Underway…

The murder trial for the men accused for former Kaizer Chiefs star Lucky Maselesele's death has finally started, the authorities have confirmed. 

'Romza', as Maselesele had been fondly known throughout his professional career, was murdered in Alexandra in October 2021.

At the time, it was reported that the ex-forward had been stoned to death by a group of community members who allegedly accused him of stealing power cables. 

Maselesele was 41 at the time and he was certified dead on the scene by the paramedics.

As confirmed by the police at the time, two men were later apprehended for his death although it had been reported that more people had been involved in the gruesome act.

Speaking to the Siya crew, the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) confirmed that the trial got underway at the Johannesburg High Court on Monday.       

"The matter has been transferred to the High Court but I just don't have the details involving the accused with me at the moment," confirmed NPA's Phindi Mjondondwane.

Maselesele played for Amakhosi between 1998 and 2004, having come through the club's youth ranks.

The Alexandra-born star also played for Maritzburg United, Thanda Royal Zulu, Black Leopards, FC AK and Civics FC in Namibia, among other clubs.
