With Lionel Messi's contract at Paris Saint-Germain set to expire at the end of the season, reports suggest that the football icon now has a verbal agreement in place with the club he will be playing for next season.
Man Utd Through To Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals
As per the Daily Mail, it is understood the 35-year-old has given assurances to PSG that he will sign a new deal in Paris, with both parties having reached a verbal agreement to have the Argentine extend his stay in the French capital.
The Rosario-born attacker has been the subject of much transfer rumours in recent months, with multiple reports linking the diminutive goalscorer with a move across the Atlantic Ocean to join Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami and a potential return to Barcelona.
However, it now seems neither of those moves will happen, with Messi seemingly committing his future to PSG.
According to Goal, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner will sign a deal similar to the one he inked when he first arrived at the Parc des Princes.
A two-year deal with similar wages will see the Argentine reprise his role in what is a lethal front three for the Ligue 1 champions, along with with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, until 2025.
While nothing has been signed yet, the expectation is for the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner to put pen to paper on a new deal before the end of the year, with PSG avoiding the possibility of their talisman invoking the Bosman ruling.
Xavi: Pedri Gavi Are Better Than Iniesta I At Their Age
The legendary Argentine has been in a sublime form for the record French champions this season, having found the back of net 12 times and assisted on a further 14 occasions.
Having just come back from a triumphant 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with his nation, it is likely that the prolific playmaker will want to add to his trophy haul with Les Parisiens this season and beyond.
