Cristiano Ronaldo could reportedly be set for a swift return to the Premier League after leaving Manchester United.
The 37-year-old is currently without a club after mutually terminating his contract with the Red Devils after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, where he criticised the club and manager Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo had been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr FC, but it is believed the player still wants to compete the highest level.
According to Football London, as cited by Daily Star, Chelsea could look to reignite their interest in the former United and Real Madrid star after their second choice striker Amardno Broja was ruled out for the rest of the season.
The Blues were reportedly interested in Ronaldo before the start of the season but former coach Thomas Tuchel said no to the deal and the club ended up signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Reports claim that Tuchel's refusal to agree on the Ronaldo signing started his downfall at the club and he was sacked in September, just a few days after the transfer window had slammed shut.
Red Devils legend Gary Neville has revealed his wish for Ronaldo to remain in the Premier League after his Old Trafford departure.
"How does he see the end of his career playing out? Does he see the end of his career playing out in lesser leagues or does he see his career playing out in one of the major leagues and continuing at that level?," Neville said on Sky Sports.
"I hope it's the latter and he can find a club in a major league, even the Premier League – I would love him to stay in the Premier League at a club that can have him up front and we can watch him every week. That's what we want to see, we want to see him playing."
