Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag appears to have made a U-turn on England centre-back Harry Maguire after watching the defender at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Man Utd To Replace Ronaldo In January? Ten Hag Reveals Verdict
Heading into the global showpiece in the Middle East, the 29-year-old had lost his place as a regular starter for the Red Devils since the appointment of Dutch boss Ten Hag.
It was suggested that the former Ajax Amsterdam tactician had opened the door to his sale, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane seemingly his preferred central defensive duo.
Maguire, however, put on some impressive displays for the Three Lions on their run to the quarter-finals at the World Cup, perhaps unsurprisingly considering his previous form at major tournaments when representing his country.
Ten Hag seems to have been paying attention to Maguire's form in Qatar, saying he believes the centre-back has shown he has what it takes to play for him.
"I've been asked many times if he is good enough to play for me and it is clear he is good enough to play at the highest level," he said, according to the Daily Mirror.
"He has, for England, almost all the time good games. Yes, he had a period in Manchester where he performed badly and then, of course, there are difficulties.
"But when he is confident in himself, he will put that on the pitch. When he is working hard, you will get that confidence and you are seeing that with the way he is playing for England.

"We want him to bring that back to Manchester with him so he can bring it on the pitch for Manchester United. I expect from him, the team knows what they expect from him. If he does that, he will be a great player for us."
