Chiefs' Big Problems: Can They Sort Them Out?

Chiefs' Big Problems: Can They Sort Them Out?

The DStv Premiership break will give Kaizer Chiefs time to work on certain areas which have played a big part in their inconsistent results.

Amakhosi are fourth on the standings and are still in the race to win the title, but there are quite a number of areas head coach Arthur Zwane will need to address to ensure they have a stronger second half of the season.

Home record

Amakhosi would be closer to Sundowns if they had a better home record in the league. As things stand, the Soweto giants have played six matches at home and have managed to win three of them. They have drawn twice and lost once, dropping a total of eight points on home soil. These are points that they could rue at the end of the season. Zwane will be aware of the fact that they have not been convincing at home and it's something he would no doubt address before local football returns.

Clean sheets

Amakhosi would no doubt have been pleased with the fact that they kept a clean sheet in their final game before the break against Orlando Pirates, but they have been hard to come by this season. In fact, before the clash against Pirates, Chiefs had not kept a clean sheet in six Premiership matches, a big concern for the side. It's understood that Amakhosi are in the market for a defender, with Luke Fleurs of SuperSport United a target for the side.

Conceding first

Amakhosi have found themselves on the backfoot quite a few times this season, having to fight back whenever they concede first. They have conceded first against Royal AM, Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City, Marumo Gallants, Stellenbosch, SuperSport United In some cases, against Royal AM, Sundowns and City, they were unable to recover as they lost those matches. This is something could want to look at, to ensure that Amakhosi are not usually having to come from behind.

First half problem

Amakhosi have conceded nine times in the first half this season and this has had an impact on the team, with them having to fight back each time they find themselves falling behind. With statistics available on how much the team concedes in the first half, Zwane is probably going to work on this problem to ensure his players are alert.
