In his recent controversial interview, Cristiano Ronaldo shared his feelings on breaking Lionel Messi's shirt sales record following his return to Manchester United last year.
Report: How Rooney Reacted To Ronaldo's Criticism
Part one of his full interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan aired on Wednesday night, with Ronaldo touching on several topics such as his family, his disappointment with the facilities at United and the criticism he has faced from former teammates.
The 37-year-old has found himself in trouble with the Red Devils since the first few clips were released earlier this week amid reports suggesting the club will cut ties with him as soon as the January transfer window comes around.
Although Ronaldo is expected to discuss his rivalry with Argentina captain Lionel Messi more, Morgan did ask the five-time Ballon d'Or winner if he was thrilled when he broke the Paris Saint-Germain forward's shirt sales record after his United return.
"Of course, I was," he said.
"As you know I don't follow the records, the records follow me. Another one in my book."
In September last year, it was reported that Ronaldo had sold 14 times the amount of shirts that Messi did following his free-agent move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain a month earlier.
Ronaldo also explained that he was close to joining Pep Guardiola's Manchester City before Sir Alex Ferguson intervened, admitting he was surprised that the Premier League champions had declared their interest in him.
Man Utd To Terminate Ronaldo's Contract?
The ex-Real Madrid and Juventus talisman eventually did re-sign for United, where he spent six years between 2003 and 2009 and won his first Ballon d'Or in 2008.
