Gallery: Bucs Celebrate First Trophy Under Riveiro With MTN8 Triumph

Orlando Pirates got their hands on the first piece of silverware for the 2022/2023 season on Saturday after defeating AmaZulu on MTN8.

The Buccaneers secured their second MTN8 title in three years as Monnapule Saleng's impressive free-kick in the first half secured a 1-0 win at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

In doing so, the Soweto giants handed coach Jose Riveiro his first trophy in his maiden season with the outfit.

The players and the coaches got their hands on the trophy on Saturday evening, strong crowd present to witness their success after missing the 2020 celebrations when supporters were not allowed in stadiums.

Pirates midfielder Miguel Time hopes the supporters are happy again after the disappointing loss to Kaizer Chiefs last weekend.

"This is the best supporters, they kept us going and I'll always give my best for them, whether we win or lose," Timm told SuperSport after the game. 

"We know we disappointed you last week and I hope you're happy now. The best team in the world!"

The Buccaneers will have another chance at clinching silverware next weekend when they take part in the Carling Black Label Cup, with the team set to renew their rivalry with Kaizer Chiefs in the second semi-final.
