Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has reportedly told Lionel Messi how he will use him if he returns to the Catalan giants at the end of the season.
Messi 'Ignoring Phone Calls' From Barca President
The 35-year-old has been linked with an exit from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, when his contract is set to expire, making it possible for clubs to enter into discussions with the player as soon as January.
Barca and MLS side Inter Miami have emerged as potential next destinations for Messi, who will reportedly come to a final decision on his future after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Meanwhile, journalist Joan Fontes, as cited by Barca Universal, has claimed that Blaugrana head coach Xavi has already communicated to the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner exactly how he would use him if he returned to the Camp Nou next year.
According to the reporter, Xavi has told Messi he would be used in his favoured position on the right side of Barcelona's attack, where he spent the majority of his career in the Catalan giants' first team between his senior debut and 2021.
Messi left his boyhood club in August last year as a free agent, although it is well-known that the player's wish was to continue in Spain before president Joan Laporta decided that handing him a new contract would be financially unviable.
The Argentina international found out of his fate upon returning from an extended break following his country's success at the 2021 Copa America, and admitted in a farewell press conference that he had expected to stay on at Barca.
Messi Linked With January Move
Messi has since found his best form in France following a difficult debut campaign, having played a hand in 25 goals in just 17 matches in all competitions so far this season.
