Reports claim that two European stars have made the decision to switch their international allegiance to a giant of African football.
FIFA Threaten To Expel African Nation From World Cup
According to France24, both Houssem Aouar and Rayan Ait Nouri will now be playing for 2019 Africa Cup of Nations winners Algeria on the international stage.
The duo, who are both France youth internationals, were approached by Algerian Football Federation president Djahid Zefizef, who, along with national team head coach Djamel Belmadi, managed to get the midfielder and the defender to play for the north Africans.
The same report suggests that Aouar, who plays for Olympique Lyon, and Ait Nouri, who plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers, are now at Belmadi's disposal and will likely get called up for the first time when the Desert Foxes face Sweden for a friendly on 19 November.
While 21-year-old Ait Nouri has only played for France's U18, U19 and U21 sides, Aouar has made one appearance for the reigning FIFA World Cup champions' senior side.
Mane List His Favourites For The FIFA World Cup
The 24-year-old played for Didier Deschamps' men in an international friendly against Ukraine in 2020, but the nature of that tie, coupled with his age, allows the playmaker to now play for Algeria.
The abovementioned pair will not be the first French-born Algerians who have made the switch across the Mediterranean Sea, with others including Anthar Yahia, Sofiane Feghouli, Mourad Meghni, Yacine Brahimi and Djamel Abdoun..
