Riveiro On Bucs' Scoring Woes: It's Not About Synergies Or Luck

Riveiro On Bucs' Scoring Woes: It's Not About Synergies Or Luck

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro was unable to explain why his charges were unable to find a second goal against AmaZulu.

An own goal from Veli Mothwa cancelled out  Sphesihle Maduna's penalty for Usuthu, as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw on Friday evening.

Nkosinathi Sibisi had a penalty saved by Mothwa in the second half, as the Buccaneers extended their winless run to three matches in the league.

"The game didn't start as we expected to start with it, they played quite direct straight to the two strikers, we had some problems dealing with the second balls," Riveiro told SuperSport after the game.

"Especially we become a bit large to pick up the second ones, there were the actions where they were more aggressive and dangerous, nothing more than that.

"It's true that the beginning of the game was not in the intensity that we were supposed to play here tonight, we just reacted straight after the goal.

"Credit to the players, the way they reacted after the goal and the way we pushed in the second half. The fact that their goalkeeper is a hero tonight it tells about the nature of the second half."

The Spanish tactician was further asked whether his charges are understanding each other well at this stage of the season.

"Absolutely, the most difficult thing in football is to create goal-scoring chances, clear ones, not from rebounds, not coming from second actions, coming from our offensive organisation.

"Interactions between players, one more time tonight we did it in the second half, so it's not about synergies or luck, I don't know what it is.

"But it's a fact that we didn't score enough and that is what is taking out today the possibility to celebrate the victory."
