Reports suggest that Erling Haaland could possibly be on his way out of Manchester City two years into his career with the Citizens, with it being claimed the forward has a hefty release clause included in his contract.
PSG Prepared 'To Pay Shock €150m Release Clause' For Milan Star
After manager Pep Guardiola denied rumours of a special release clause for Real Madrid being a part of Haaland's contract following his €60 million (R1 billion) move from Borussia Dortmund, The Athletic has now reported that there is, in fact, a buyout clause stipulated in the Norwegian's deal.
According to the abovementioned publication, the Scandinavian hitman will be able to leave the Etihad Stadium for a huge figure of €200 million (R3.5 billion) at the end of the 2023/24 season, but only for a team outside of the Premier League.
The same report suggests that the release clause will decrease every season Haaland decides to stay in Manchester after that, but it is likely many European giants will be looking to pounce on the astronomical transfer fee as soon as possible.
Haaland has enjoyed an otherworldly start to his career in England, having scored 20 goals in 13 appearances across all competitions for the Citizens.
In fact, since the campaign kicked off, he has scored in every game he has played in under Guardiola's tutelage, bar one.
It is believed LaLiga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona will make Haaland their main priority when July 2024 comes around, with both their current top marksmen older than 30.
Barca's Robert Lewandowski and Los Blancos' Karim Benzema are both 34 years old, and with Haaland scoring at the rate he currently is, the Spanish outfits are said to be keen to recruit the Norway striker as soon as possible.
Griezmann Breaks Silence After Official Barca Exit
In the off-season, Haaland reportedly rebuffed the advances of the likes of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Barca and Real in favour of joining City, but it now appears to be a matter of when, and not if, the ex-Molde man will ply his trade in another league outside the English top flight.
