Soccer Laduma looks back at Kaizer Chiefs' record over two-legs in the MTN8 last four, as the Soweto giants look to win their first semi-final since 2015.
Amakhosi are set to host AmaZulu in the first leg MTN8 clash at FNB Stadium on Sunday, a few weeks after the sides played out to a goalless draw at the same venue in the Premiership. Ahead of the clash, Soccer Laduma looks at how the Soweto giants have performed in two-legged MTN8 semi-finals since 2008.

2008 (win)
Amakhosi faced Moroka Swallows in the first leg on home soil and recorded a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Gert Schalkwyk and Jose Torrealba. Chiefs lost the second leg 1-0, but they had done enough from the first clash to progress to the final. The Soweto giants went onto beat Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties in the final.
2009 (lose)
The Soweto giants came up against a tricky Ajax Cape Town side and were beaten 1-0 in the Mother City. Ajax's winner was scored by Dipsy Selolwane from the penalty spot, giving Amakhosi all to do in the second leg. The second leg was an absolute cracker, as it ended in a six-goal thriller with the side playing out to a 3-3 draw. Torrealba, Josta Dladla and Siphiwe Tshabalala were on the scoresheet for Chiefs, while Brett Evans struck twice for Ajax, with Franklin Cale getting the third. Ajax won it 4-3 on aggregate.
2010 (lose)
Chiefs met Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in the semis and the first leg ended 1-1. Isaac Chansa opened the scoring in the 47th minute and Knowledge Musona levelled matters on the hour mark. Katlego Mashego scored the winner for Pirates, and only goal, in the second leg as the Buccaneers progressed following a 2-1 aggregate win. Pirates went onto win the competition.
2011 (win)
The Naturena-based outfit met Ajax in a semi-final again and this time it went in their favour. The first leg clash ended goalless in Johannesburg and the second encounter ended 1-1 in the Mother City. Dladla opened the scoring for Chiefs, but Thembinkosi Fanteni cancelled it out with an equalizer. Chiefs progressed to the final and lost to rivals Pirates.
2012
Amakhosi did not qualify for the semis.
2013 (lose)
They met Pirates again and it was Daine Klate's 12th minute strike which sealed the victory in the first leg. The second leg ended 1-1, as Lennox Bacela's 76th minute penalty cancelled out Bernard Parker's first half strike.
2014 (win)
Amakhosi cruised to the final of the MTN8 with a convincing 5-0 aggregate victory over Platinum Stars. George Maluleka netted a brace in the first leg to inspire the Soweto giants to a 2-0 victory in North West and then they wrapped it up with a 3-0 win in the second clash, as Maluleka, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Katlego Mphela got themselves on the scoresheet.

2015 (win)
Bloemfontein Celtic were Amakhosi's opponents in the 2015 semi-finals, as the first leg ended 1-1. Helder Pelembe scored for Celtic and Parker got a valuable away goal for the Soweto giants. George Lebese's first half goal in the second leg was enough to seal a 1-0 win. Chiefs won it 2-1 on aggregate.
2016
The Glamour Boys did not qualify for the semis.
2017
Amakhosi did not qualify for the semis.
2018 (lose)
Amakhosi met SuperSport United in a thrilling two-legged semi-final, which produced five goals. The first leg in Tshwane ended 2-2, as Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat got the goals for Chiefs. Bradley Grobler netted a brace and he went on to score the only goal in the second leg as Matsatsantsa clinched the tie 3-2 on aggregate.
2019
Did not qualify for the competition.
2020
Amakhosi were embarrassed by their rivals Pirates in the semi-final, going down 5-0 on aggregate. Bucs won the first leg 3-0, as Zakhele Lepasa, Vincent Pule and Thembinkosi Lorch put their rivals to the sword. Fortune Makaringe and Linda Mntambo added salt to the wound when they wrapped up a 2-0 second leg victory.
2021
Chiefs did not qualify for the semis.
