Moroka Swallows are caught in a double storm, organising internal disciplinary action and facing PSL charges for their missed matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows recently. The Dube Birds, once synonymous with soaring flight, find themselves grounded by financial challenges and allegations of player misconduct as reported in the local media.

The Swallows players are set to face an internal hearing on January 5, where they can defend themselves with legal representation if they choose, as reported by the SABC.
The PSL has now thrown the gauntlet down. Advocate Zola Majavu, the league's prosecutor, confirms charges against Swallows for "misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute" due to their missed fixtures. The Dube Birds will face the Disciplinary Committee on January 11, their fate hanging in the balance.
"I can confirm that yesterday that Moroka Swallows FC were charged for misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute pursuant to their failure to honour fixtures that were scheduled for the 27th and 30th of December 2023 respectively.
"They will appear before the PSL DC (Disciplinary Committee) on the 11th January 2024 at 11 o'clock at the offices of the league. Once that matter is finalised only then will I give a further update on the outcome of the DC proceedings until then there will be further commentary on the matter as per usual."
Swallows' woes don't exist in a vacuum. Financial struggles have been a challenge for them in the past too. The PSL rules are clear: requests to postpone matches must be made at least 10 days in advance. Swallows' late scramble, allegedly fueled by player disgruntlement, leaves them facing the consequences. Whether they can weather this storm, mend fences with both players and the league, and rise again, remains to be seen.
