Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 1-0 over Al Ahly in the first leg of their African Football League semi-final on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versveld.

Thapelo Maseko scored from distance to give Masandawana an all-important advantage ahead of Wednesday's second leg in Cairo.

This is the second time Rulani Mokwena's men have overcome Al Ahly at home with Percy Tau involved, beating the Egyptian giants 5-2 in last season's CAF Champions League group stages, with the Lion of Judah getting onto the scoresheet on that day.

Here's how the readers reacted to the "Tau Kept Quiet As Downs Sink Al Ahly In AFL" story:

"Before the game, there was a comment made by an Al Ahly legend that Sundowns is the only team in Africa that has a football identity, he goes as far as saying wherever and whenever Sundowns play, their mission is to impose their style of play to their opposition, so it's up to opposition to plan accordingly," says Jantjies.

"What a lovely weekend," says Dominate-downs.

"Definitely that associated with Chiefs loss neh. I never have a better day compared to when Chiefs have lost, I love it, I enjoy their cries," replies Ubalalolo.

"President will be congratulating the Springboks and Sundowns tomorrow evening for representing Mzansi well," says Shikabala.

"I'm still disappointed with MTN 8 loss, I'm trying to heal but I don't know, I just can't. I've never watched any Sundowns matches since...

"I cut all football updates, I don't how many games Sundowns have won, lost and drawn since the Pirates game. I bumped into this after hearing Chiefs lost yesterday," says Ubalalolo.

"Heal Dawana, things like this happen in this game. But I fully understand your feelings. It also took me some time to come to terms with that loss," replies bhekilekhuleni6.

"Remember you win some, you lose some. But your win ratio is still up there. Forget about the past and focus on the bigger fish ahead," replies oupa.phiri27.

"Sundowns' strategy in continental competitions has changed from wining home games to wining first leg games, either playing home or away. The strategy remains wining first leg games," says bhekilekhuleni6.

"But we don't seem to learn... Mudau using hands, not utilizing set pieces, and standard situations. If Al Ahly scores in Cairo, it would be via a set piece, thina? dololo.

"I don't understand why Mudau always uses his hands in opposition faces, what puzzles me is he does that after winning the ball cleanly. I was also very disappointed by our failure to make the keeper work in the 1st half from the set pieces we got," replies ngalabezi10.

"And that referee was blowing for everything, any fall was a foul.

"Back on Mudau, he uses his hands unnecessarily man, he uses them when he is already in control of the ball I don't know why.

But hey he is a gem bru, the guy should go to Europe once and for all. The best in our league (all round).

"Sundowns should stop trying direct free kicks, instead they should do those hard and low balls into that dangerous area," says sesetutu5.

"Well done Masandawana, you are representing Mzansi so well in Africa," says oupa.phiri27.

"Congratulations to Downs, hopefully the return of Shalulile and Ribiero come in the second leg, it will give Sundowns the much needed firepower upfront," says ghettovillage411.

"That's everyone's wish but the Wednesday of this week is too soon for their availability. A proper striker like Shalulile would have buried most of the chances that were created today," replies Jantjies.

"Jah neh, but Sundowns are a determined team with a lot of character... it's just that welcoming them back will play a huge role," replies ghettovillage411.
