The Nedbank Cup commences today, and it kicks off with Bidvest Wits up against Cape Town City this evening, along with AmaZulu versus Mthatha Bucks and Ubuntu versus Polokwane City.
The Nedbank Cup is the last cup competition of the season, with the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout already out of the way. With just 10 more league games to go, this trophy is also one more opportunity for teams to taste cup glory before the season ends in May.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is among those who are in search of lucky fortunes as he hasn't lifted a major cup since joining Amakhosi in 2015 as Stuart Baxter's successor. The search for Nedbank Cup glory could be a make or break the Kroonstad-born coach's stay at Naturena.
Supporters have shared their mixed opinions regarding Komphela and Chiefs' potential run in the competition:
"Surely the Nedbank Cup will come to Naturena and take us to CCC glory after that we go for the star through the front door. #kusazobamnandi." – KING~PHAZAMISA~RETURNS
"The way things stand, he (Komphela) is leaving when his contract expires, maybe earlier if things get worse. Nedbank will not save him if we keep slipping down the PSL log. Maybe Nedbank can give him a job as a spokesperson." – blackmeteor
"What I know when people start saying it's 'do or die' to 'Jola' or say if he loses this game, he will leave. He turns out to win those games and forget what they said because of happiness and joy after some games then he starts with his draws." – Vamza
"Please Mr Motaung, give the coach a lifetime contract so that they leave our Eymael alone and we enjoy Chiefs faithful's crying." – Ea lla koto aka Panyaza Lesufi
Is the Nedbank Cup "do or die" for Komphela?
