Patrick Maswanganyi's contract with SuperSport United is set to expire at the end of the season and indications are that he has done more than enough to convince Gavin Hunt to hold onto him beyond the current campaign.
The Stars of Africa Academy development product, who has enjoyed a stellar maiden season with Matsatsantsa, has entered the last six months of his one-year contract, having joined the club from Portuguese side Oliveirense in August last year.
The Siya crew has been informed that there is an option to renew the midfielder's contract for a further two years and given the rich vein of form he has displayed, the club looks set to exercise it.
The 25-year-old has featured in 21 matches in all competitions this season, managing four assists. SuperSport took a risk when they initially signed the SA youth international, given his limited experience in the DStv Premiership.
However, their investment looks to have paid off as Maswanganyi has shown he is more than comfortable in the topflight.
"Patrick has shown that he is a quality player. Remember they have two players on loan in midfield from (Orlando) Pirates and (Mamelodi) Sundowns, so they want to ensure that his future is secure instead of losing three players. It's a no-brainer. The announcement will be made soon," a source told Soccer Laduma.
