The future of SuperSport United defender Siyabonga Nhlapo will be decided on where the club finishes at the end of the season, the Siya crew has been informed.
The experienced campaigner has been with Matsatsantsa since 2017 after leaving Bidvest Wits and has served the club with aplomb, playing in different positions to show how valuable of a member he is to the side.
Now in his mid-30s, Nhlapo will have to wait to see if the side will keep him beyond the expiration of his contract in June.
A key part of the decision will be determined by whether or not SuperSport qualify for the CAF Champions League.
"My contract will end in June. We are in talks. I have already seen the proposal and I am happy with, but it also depends on where we finish as a team, as I have been told," the former Jomo Cosmos player told the Siya crew.
"Our position does not necessarily mean that if we finish third or fourth, the team will decide otherwise. But a lot is hanging on most of us remaining… because you cannot keep a lot of players when you are not in CAF. You can only keep players when you are in CAF. We are aware of that and no one is safe. We've spoken, but that does not mean anything. We still need to finish number two to give us a chance."
The 34-year-old star has made 19 appearances in all competitions for Matsatsantsa, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
