Chiefs To Offer Less For Prime Sundowns Target?

Chiefs To Offer Less For Prime Sundowns Target?

Kaze, who previously worked with Salum alongside coach Nasreddine Nabi at Yanga SC, played a key role in identifying the player.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi had expressed interest in acquiring Salum from Azam FC.

Now, Siya sources in Tanzania and close to Chiefs have indicated that the club is believed to be making an official offer to Azam FC and will wait on their response.

The insiders have noted that while the offer may not match a higher figure that could be proposed by Mamelodi Sundowns, who are also linked to Salum, Chiefs are banking on the influence of Nabi and Kaze to edge the deal in their favour.

"The club has taken the proposal by assistant coach Cedric Kaze very seriously concerning the need to sign Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum from Azam FC and that is why they have made an offer. For now, I can tell you that it's not in the region of around R30 million that the club asked for the player when Sundowns inquired about him but it's a good offer from Chiefs who have a tight budget at the moment," said the Siya source.

"It will all depend on the other conditions and clauses in the proposal which could motivate Azam to consider what Chiefs have put on the table," the source added.

A second insider stated that Chiefs' proposal is around R15 million, which is relatively low when compared to the reported R25 million that the Brazilians were expected to have bid.

"Their offer that they are apparently proposing to Azam is around R15m but there are other clauses in the proposal which could be enticing to Azam to look at the proposal with interest. And also knowing that both Kaze and Nabi have worked with him before, that could be a plus factor for the deal to happen though at the moment it's just an offer put on the table," the second source stated.

The 26-year-old Salum is a key player for the Taifa Stars, Tanzania's national team. He was also part of the team that recently qualified for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

Attempts to reach Chiefs for comment were unsuccessful at the time of preparing this story.

The pursuit of Feisal Salum underscores Chiefs' strategic efforts to strengthen their squad with international talent. The influence of coaches Kaze and Nabi, along with a competitive offer, might bring Salum to the South African league, the PSL, enhancing Chiefs' midfield options, particularly with the long term injury to Edson Castillo.
