With striker Fiston Mayele and winger Oswin Appollis being among the players wanted by Amakhosi, as previously reported by Soccer Laduma, the Siya crew takes a look at the pursuit of Cape Town Spurs midfielder Asanele Velebayi.
With the 21-year-old being the captain of Spurs and his recent consistent form, Chiefs should be following his progress eagerly.
However, Siya sources close to the club have indicated that the main factor will be whether Chiefs eventually secure the signing of Appollis or not. The insider discussed how head scout Thembela Maliwa has been given the task to look into the possibility of signing Velebayi.
"You know there are many factors they are going to look at in January. First and foremost, the new head of scouting is working with the coaches from both the first team and the development and they are looking at which players could help the team. Then they monitor the performances and progress of those players," said the Siya source.
"Yes, Asanele (Velebayi) has been on that list and they know his performances this season have been good but he is not the first choice in that area or position. Appollis and (Tshepang) Moremi are the preferred candidates but it will all depend on what happens with these two in January before the Velebayi decision would be made again," the source added.

A second insider close to the club stated that financial factors between the two teams could still determine the move.
"It's not just about the player's form or progress. They are also looking at the negotiations and the money involved. You know that's what derailed the deal in August, and if nothing changes in that area then it will be difficult to seal a deal even if the coaches and scouts believe he is the right player for the team. So let's wait for January for now," the second insider stated.
