With the 2023/24 season having come to an end for Kaizer Chiefs, the club is expected to make a big announcement on the future of Itumeleng Khune in their planning for next season.
Following Chiefs' decision to honour Khune two weeks ago for his 25 years of loyal service to the club, speculation has been rife in the fraternity about the veteran goalkeeper's future as an Amakhosi player.

While the 36-year-old has said that he has no plans of retiring from professional football, indications are that he may have to go elsewhere for that to happen.
In June last year when Chiefs confirmed the one-year contract extension for Khune, the club announced that the deal was his last as their player and up to now, there hasn't been a different announcement from the Soweto giants about ''Mzansi's finest" and his future.
According to sources, there isn't likely to be a change in Khune's situation at Chiefs, which might open doors for him to move elsewhere to further his career, while retiring could be another option for him if he doesn't want to affect his reputation as a one club man – a Khosi for Life!
"The fact that we have reached this stage of the season without anything being said about Khune's situation, the signs are there on what could be expected. It was very disappointing not to see the guy getting a run even in the last few games of the season despite the team's disappointing results, but that is a story for another day," said the source.

"I cannot blame anyone suggesting that Khune is seemingly being pushed out into retirement. We don't see things the same way, but for me the guy can still play for another two years or more. But what is happening isn't surprising because players do come and go, and he is not the first one to be in this kind of a situation and will not be the last. It happened to great Chiefs players before like Thabo Mooki, Brian Baloyi, Cyril Nzama, Tinashe Nengomasha and Patrick Mabedi, among others. But Khune's situation is disappointing for someone who has done so much for the club in good and bad times," the source said.
