Insiders: Has Bvuma Moved Ahead Of Ntwari At Chiefs?

Insiders: Has Bvuma Moved Ahead Of Ntwari At Chiefs?

This has cast some doubts among Amakhosi faithful, and others have wondered whether the results will provide a headache for coach Nasreddine Nabi as they prepare for their Carling Knockout encounter against SuperSport United soon after the FIFA break.

Placing further pressure on Ntwari, on Sunday in the CUFA Cup against Marumo Gallants, second-choice Bruce Bvuma not only kept a clean sheet in the 90 minutes but also saved two penalties in the shootout to help the team win the cup.

Despite these questions from the outside, insiders at the club have indicated that Nabi has no plans to change the team that he has trusted since the start of the season.

The sources added that Bvuma only played in the CUFA Cup because Ntwari was on national team duty, but that the Rwandan remains the first choice at the moment.

"The whole technical team works together and they know which goalkeeper should play and they have their reasons. Fiacre (Ntwari) is with the national team but at the moment, since the pre-season, he remains the first choice and there is no headache for the coach there," said the Siya source.

"Ntwari is the first choice. What happened at the national team has nothing to do with the club. It's the same what happened in the past three games has nothing to do with the coming games. The coach doesn't believe in changing the team just for the sake of changing it and there is no difference in the league and cup games.

"So I can tell you Fiacre is still number one when he comes back and when the team plays SuperSport United whether in the league or the Carling Knockout," the source added.

Meanwhile, a second insider stated that with Brandon Petersen having recovered from injury, he and Bvuma will now compete for the second goalkeeper position on the bench.

"You remember I told you that the coach made it clear that Ntwari is number one and it will be either Petersen or Bvuma to deputise him. From the start of the season Bvuma had been on the bench because Petersen was injured but now he has recovered and they will be competing for the number two position," said the second insider.

"But you know in football there are injuries and suspensions which will also affect the set-up by the coach and his technical team, not only with the goalkeepers but other departments as well. But for now Fiacre (Ntwari) is number one, no doubt about that," the source told Siya crew.

Ntwari's Rwanda lost 3-0 against Benin on Friday, October 11 and then went on to beat Benin 2-1 at home on Tuesday.

Despite recent performances, the return of Petersen and the form of Bvuma, Ntwari should still be Chiefs' first-choice goalkeeper. It remains to be seen if that could change, a month or two into the season.
