Orlando Pirates teenage sensation Relebohile Ratomo has already shown glimpses of what he is capable of in the short time he has been with the senior side, although he could have been donning a different jersey altogether had it not been for the Soweto giants' persistence!
The Houghton-based outfit managed to snatch the 18-year-old from the School of Excellence after fending off competition from rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Buccaneers, according to the player's father Sechaba Mofokeng, were not necessarily the family's first choice. However, the intensity with which the club pursued the Vaal-born starlet convinced the Mofokeng family to give them a shot.
"I'll be honest, the other teams were busy talking in the papers only. Then fortunately, Pirates showed how serious they were," Mofokeng told the Siya crew.
"They came to our home, not once, not twice, but they came many times, more than five times. We kept postponing it and telling the club that we were busy and unavailable. It was like that until I spoke to my wife and told her, 'Let's give these people a chance and hear what they say'."
Ratomo made two appearances in the 2022/23 season for Pirates' first team, where he managed a goal and an assist, impressing fans with his range of passing and goal scorer's instinct in the box.
As reported by Soccer Laduma, he will officially be registered under the name Relebohile Mofokeng in the 2023/24 campaign, having undergone the necessary procedures to do so.
What do you think of Ratomo's potential for the future?
