Chelsea Trials: What Is Witbooi's Price Tag & When Could He Move Abroad?

Chelsea Trials: What Is Witbooi's Price Tag & When Could He Move Abroad?

Cape Town City talented youngster Emile Witbooi is currently on trial with Chelsea in England.

Despite his outstanding talent, CT City Chairman John Comitis has stated that it's too early to talk about the price he wants for Witbooi or what could happen if he moves to London in context of Brexit rules.

Comitis stated, that for now, it's about building the relationship they have with clubs in Europe, including Chelsea, and giving the youngster the chance to experience how things are done in the Premier League.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Comitis said that as a club in South Africa, their main aim is to send as many youngsters as they can to Europe to help the development of football in the country and for individual progress too.

"Let's not get excited. We can not be talking about Brexit rules at the moment. It's still early to be talking about what will happen with the Brexit rules. You know with Emile (Witbooi) training at Chelsea, it is for him to gain experience. You know he is only 16-years-old and things can only happen when he is 18-years-old. For now, it's just building the relationship we already have with different clubs in Europe and one of them is Chelsea," Comitis told the Siya crew.

"For now, we are not talking about his transfer to Chelsea or something like that. We are talking about him gaining the experience of training with a top club in Europe. You will recall my history with Ajax Cape Town. I used to send many youngsters to Holland and other countries. That's what we are still doing at Cape Town City. We did the same with Gabriel Amato when he went to KVC Westerlo in Belgium. That's our culture. So let's not put pressure on the young man at Chelsea," Comitis added.

When asked how much Witbooi could cost Chelsea in the event they want to sign him from City, Comitis said, for now, it's too early to talk about money and selling the youngster.

"Yes, he can do well there while training with them but at the moment he can not move to England until he is 18-years-old. And also, this is not about money. It's about building the relationship between City and Chelsea. And from now until he turns 18, there is a lot that could happen so there is no need to talk about how much he would cost at all," Comitis underlined and set the record straight.

In the past, while still with Ajax Cape Town, Comitis exported players such as Steve Pienaar and Thulani Serero to Europe, in these cases the Mother City club had an established relationship with Ajax in Amsterdam.

As Witbooi continues his training stint with Chelsea, the Cape Town club remains focused on building strong relationships with European clubs. Fans will be eager to see how this experience shapes Witbooi's development and future prospects.
