Following the recent sales of established PSL teams, former Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits winger Sifiso Myeni opened up on how players are affected.
Wits FC ceased to exist in the PSL after it sold it's Premiership status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in 2020 due to financial effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Clever Boys, disposing of their club, flushed down the drain a 100-year history, a few years after they won their first league title.
The likes of Bloemfontein Celtic and Moroka Swallows are some of the recent clubs which had a rich heritage but due to financial struggles, had to sell their statuses to Royal AM and Marumo Gallants.

Myeni made his name at Wits and was part of the squad that won the Premiership for the first time in 96 years, in his second stint at the club in 2017 after he returned from Orlando Pirates.
"It broke me (when Wits was sold), when I learned about it I was like 'yoh!' Even now, Pirates tracksuits, I give them away, but the Wits things I still have," Myeni said in an interview on izinja zeGame podcast with Josta Dladla.
"The Wits stuff, tracksuits when I go and train my boys I wear that. It broke me, (I thought) those 100 years they were gonna do something special for the legends that played and we'll meet everyone who played before us."

(When I won the league with Wits) I was emotional because also they gave me the second chance to come back. I'm someone who watches NBA, so my story would be like LeBron (James) when he went to (Cleveland) Cavaliers after they had not won anything, I also won MTN8 and the league (with Wits after they spent a long time without winning trophies)," Myeni added.
Gavin Hunt, who recently celebrated his 1000th game in the PSL, won his fourth league title with Wits and was denied a chance to build on his legacy with a team that consistently competed for titles.
